Community Helps Open New Station

Nearly 1,000 local residents helped dedicate the Falcon Fire Department’s newest station on May 15.

Visitors were treated to food, refreshments, equipment displays, including equipment from the El Paso County Hazardous Material Response team and the Flight for Life helicopter. “All the firefighters, emergency medical technicians and support staff of the Falcon Fire Department are extremely proud of the community’s new station,” said Fire Chief Trent Harwig. “Station 1 fulfills a long-standing desire to build a station in the Department’s most populated area, which also generates the most responses.”

Groundbreaking for the 13,500-square foot station took place July 31, 2009, and the station became operational in May 2010.

Construction was financed by Farmers State Bank, which will own the station for 10 years. The Department will lease the station for 10 years on a lease/purchase agreement with an option to purchase the station for $1.

Administrative functions and the Department’s fleet maintenance will remain in the current Headquarters facility on Old Meridian Road. It also will serve as the Department’s training facility.

Apparatus at Station 1 include:

  • An engine
  • A water tender (water truck)
  • A brush truck
  • An AMR ambulance
  • A utility truck
  • Battalion Chief Command vehicle
